Miami Marlins Minute 4/23

Well quite the matchup Thursday night, and not just because it involved four players on my fantasy team.  Counts for something considering this season has been anything but fantasy for the Fightin’ Fish.  But Miami took down the Phillies 6-1, evening the series with a little bit of help from their NL East rivals.

  • That sixth run was the first earned run of the game for the Marlins, coming in the 8th inning.
  • Miami scored the winning run of the game on a balk in the 7th by Luis Garcia.
  • Dee Gordon turned 27, celebrating with a 1 for 5 day; one of those “outs” was dropped for 3 runs.
  • Even with the six runs, Miami left eleven men on base, compared to just two for Philadelphia.
  • Philadelphia had three errors, two of them courtesy of Marlin fan “favorite” Chase Utley.
  • Jared Cosart earned his first W, and second QS, of the year in a 6 inning, 4-hit effort.
  • Miami backed him with three innings of one-hit relief.
  • That includes a perfect non-save 9th from closer Steve Cishek.
  • JT Realmuto went 2 for 5 at the plate, and is now one of two Marlins batting over .300.
